SCHOOL OF THE AMERICAS WATCH: CLOSE THE SOA
Each year BRIDGES sends a delegation to the annual School of the Americas (SOA) demonstration and vigil in Fort Benning, Georgia. The SOA (recently renamed the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation) is known by many as the School of Assassins, as many of its graduates have gone on to commit massacres and other atrocities. Please join us in our goal to CLOSE THE SOA. (More about SOA)
BABUF: BRIDGES ACROSS BORDERS STUDENT GROUP
BRIDGES ACROSS BORDERS is very excited to announce the creation of a new BAB Student Group at the University of Florida in Gainesville. After a year of paperwork and headache, BABUF has finally become official on campus! Complete with four officers and a growing base of members, BABUF is quickly becoming well-known on the UF campus as well as in the community. But even though the process of becoming official was long, it didn’t take them long to get into the swing of things! They have already put on two yard sale FUNdraisers and played an integral part in planning and working our 2nd Annual Viva La Mujer event! (More about BABUF)
VIVA LA MUJER: HONORING THE STRENGTH OF WOMEN
Every year, BRIDGES holds an annual Viva La Mujer: Honoring the Strength of Women event in Gainesville, Florida. VLM is an event that takes pride in honoring the strength of women through a variety of creative and artistic means. We have had several amazing bands, poets, and other various artists perform at the event. It is a fun and fabulous fundraiser and is also a very successful way of letting people know about the work we do! It is wonderful to interact with our local community and connect with other organizations that have similar missions and goals. We hope you will join us later this year for VLM3! OPPOSITION COAL-ITION
Don’t be fooled by claims of “clean coal” as a means of feeding US energy consumption. Aside from the environmental destruction caused by coal mining, there are human rights issues that are seldom even made part of the dialogue. The coal industry is vehemently re working the image of coal to depict an available and affordable source of clean energy. But we know that the displacement of the Wayuu of Bahia Portete, and of other Colombian groups from La Guajira region, is directly related to the extraction of coal from their traditional lands. BRIDGES has joined with others to form this Opposition COALition to address violations committed against the Environment, Human Rights and Social Justice as a result of the extraction and sale of coal. EARTH LITERACY: 7 Generations Remembering and Reconnecting Project
BRIDGES ACROSS BORDERS’ INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE
You are invited to imagine, share, learn, create, and otherwise collaborate, with Bridges Across Borders as we participate in the 7 Generations Remembering and Reconnecting Project.
What is the 7grrp Project? It is an attempt to make sense of a civilization that operates out of a false sense of reality in its business as usual model. It is dissatisfaction that the major institutions of education, religion, and government have given us a Small way of seeing our human role on this planet rather than present the Big Story of our connection to everything else in the universe. It is a rejection of the idea that our energy should be focused on a “fix” to take us into a Technozoic Era rather than an “awareness” that will guide us to an Ecozoic Era.
It is also a belief in the human potential for creativity. It is a challenge to rise to our deeper self-reflection and our greater self-leadership. It is an offering of resources and materials to help in our examination of systems dynamics. It’s a chance for us to get and give feedback, ideas, reality checks, and encouragement. And it is an opportunity to take advantage of a Window of Reality opened by the current heating up of the planet and meltdown of the economic model.
It is an invitation to come together for a discussion of changes we can make to address our human crisis at the species level. We have the power to create planetary destruction; we also have the power to awaken to the divine creativity of our deepest human potential.
Where and when is this all taking place? It is happening now and it is continuing on whenever and wherever we want. It is online through our website and the sites of other Project Participants. It is for one or for many. It can take place at your club, church group, community gathering, or classroom. Or it can take place from your own living room. Just join in. YOU’RE INVITED!
